Tiktoy being a perfectionist, it is a challenge for him to display his works of art in galleries; art works that are up to his standards, that are “worthy” of being displayed. But who defines worthiness and value(s)?
Street Art is art often created for the moment. Tiktoy’s works that can be found in niches and near streets with light traffic sometimes stay for a few days or even for just a few hours. But he is intrigued by the interaction between his works and the people that pass by them on the streets. It’s the appreciation combined with the temptation of doing something illegal that drive him to do what does. With his art works, Tiktoy wants to keep the contemporary Street-Art-Flow alive.
Inspired by the freedom of Street Art, Pop-Surrealism, graffiti, and cartoons, he creates surreal sculptures of clocks that capture the character of psychedelic cuckoo clocks. Tiktoy gets his inspiration mainly from old cuckoo clocks, squeaky toys from the 1960s and his collection of designer toys which have a tendency towards being very colorful and a little absurd.
Driven by the street's illegal allure, the never-ending flow of ideas and his desire for a little more time and rest, Tiktoy creates an art with his clocks that stirs up emotions yet grounds the viewer at the same time.
The creation of his works begins with a piece of wood, which he intuitively transformed into an organic and often times asymmetrical form. Molding turns into painting individual surfaces. It is here where his love for different patterns and colors is clearly recognizable. The challenge is to combine the patterns and colors into a coherent whole. There is no fixed plan during the creation process. Tiktoy is completely guided by his intuition and the "good feeling".
He gives his clocks a lot of time and dedication and needs up to seven work steps, before the final protective varnish is applied.
In his clocks, the viewer not only recognizes Tiktoy's love for detail, but also his penchant for the crazy and chaotic..
