WON ABC

I have the honor to present to you WON ABC, definitely one of the most known graffiti artists in Germany of the 80s.

He still works under the name he gave himself when he was a teenager. Not only has he preserved the artist’s name from that time – also the feeling, the lifestyle, the love of street art and the unknown. The difference to that time is that today WON lets his life experience flow into his lifestyle. Could that be the reason why he can look to the future with respect and yet live completely satisfied in the here and now?

We are social beings, and for our completeness we need to communicate with our environment. In the capitalist society in which we live today, it is said: I have nothing, I have nothing.

WON wonders: What is the point of being jealous of the possessions of others? How much importance do we attach to ownership? Who owns the public space, the trains, houses, walls, bridges ...? Doesn’t the world belong to everyone? How about releasing these things for everyone, making them usable for many people? Would this not be a much more interesting approach to shaping the common habitat?

Of course, everyone has their own opinion about what is considered good or bad in our society. And also, on what divides our lives into boxes and frames. Isn’t it “important and right to have an opinion on everything?” Many individual opinions can also divide a society. Divide them in good and bad, in green and red, in high and low, poor and rich, right and wrong. How crazy it would be if we could accept our counterpart in his or her completeness and accept his or her otherness. If we look at him or her as an enrichment and give her or him (a) space for free.

WON manages time and again to visualize social and political issues, to deal with them and to record them for future generations. Let’s look forward and be surprised what’s coming next.
